URS series couplers fit into existing boxes, and SBX series couplers are for complete box replacement scenarios

Short shank couplers (101 series) generally replace “1015” type sizes, and long shank couplers (301 series) generally replace “1016” type sizes. The medium shank (201 series) is in between, and does have utility in scenarios where the short is “too short” and the long is “too long”, but typically either the long shank or short shank version is most commonly used. They vary
in length by 1 mm of shank length between each size.

Replace MTL style separate boxes on models with SBX couplers, unless your corners are very tight with S bends and you need more lateral swing. Use URS couplers in stock boxes for locomotives.
